Knaves Kitchen

Knaves Kitchen

For over 21 years Oporto has brought the best drinks, music and atmosphere to the loving crowds of Leeds with the best food & drink, resident DJs and weekly live music curated by Dead Young Records and their talented friends.

Located at the edge of the city centre, it’s a short stride from all transport links but a world away from your average small bar & venue. With a 120 capacity venue attached to the infamous Call Lane bar you can plan or attend a huge range of events with us or just let your hair down in a safe and inclusive space for fun lovers from all walks of life.

Whether you’re dancing on the bar, watching an intimate candle lit acoustic show or losing it in a sweaty rock gig, Oporto punches well above its weight, with a newly installed PA, stage & acclaimed vegan junk food pop-up Knaves Kitchen there’s plenty more fun to come.

The New York crackpot inventor & musical legend returns to Leeds via Wowtown...

Thomas Truax
"When he performs, it is a spectacle - the originality and seeming impossibility of what he does is much of the appeal." - The Guardian
"Inventive and Romantic" - TimeOut
"Beguilingly Bizarre" - Uncut
"Genius." - NME

Expect 50's rockabilly, soundtracks, steam punk, invented instruments and mouths wide open...

There's a fine line between the unique and the insane, and it's a line which New Yorker Thomas Truax (pronounced troo-aks) straddles with his chin held high and ' The Hornicator ' firmly glued to his left ear. His collection of home made instruments look as though plucked straight from the mind of Tim Burton and are combined with loop pedals, guitars and lashings of imagination to create one of the most unusual and entertaining live shows you will ever see. Splendid magazine calls him "one of the five or ten best singer/songwriters in the world that you've never heard exceptional talent, unique and resistant to comparison, yet fairly accessible even to casual listeners."

A special Gaslight Club welcoming a superb bunch from the US who dwell in the stable of awesomeness that is SUBPOP records...

Jaill is a lot like other bands; they've slept on your floor, you've made fun of their pillow cases, they're not nearly as good at Excitebike (?!?) as they said they were and although they all say they're cool with cats, no one’s excited about sleeping at the cat house. So it should come as no surprise that, as bands sometimes do, they’ve made a new record. And that record is Traps, their second for Sub Pop, but first to adopt the bold new marketing strategy of giving away a free pair of Nike cross-trainers to anyone who steals it on the internet. Take that, Radiohead. So, but, what is Traps? Traps is pretty, it’s moody, it pops. It has the scrappy, vengeful enthusiasm of a puppy stuck under a blanket. It’s an adorably grumpy bear just awoken from his long winter’s slumber, with a mangy heart rarely found outside of the stuffed animal bin of a Salvation Army. It’s an album that expects to be taken seriously goddammit, even though it just puked on the bar.

Traps is also, and confidently, a Jaill record. It’s an acerbic exercise in both humility and aggression. Lyrically and melodically it portrays the malfunctioning universe inside a home, taking into account the myriad ways in which relationships and responsibilities can destroy a person’s mind. “Gave myself a good grade on barely losing my shit,” sings Vinnie Kircher on “While You Reload.”

Just Handshakes (We're British)
In their own words: "We are Clara, Michael, Edward and Jim. We live in Leeds and play indie pop music. We've been lucky enough to support the Mystery Jets, Pete and the Pirates, Shout Out Louds and Still Corners. We have also performed a live session for Marc Riley and received airplay from Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson. We have just finished recording our debut album which will be out soon!"

On Saturday September 29th we're holding an afternoon/early evening session with some of Leeds' finest acts to get you in the mood for your Saturday night!

They create high energy, B-movie-inspired psychedelic garage rock with a surf-pop twist.
Telling tall tales of egg-stealing reptiles, werewolf women, drowned cowboys and prodigiously gifted skateboarders, ALASKA's current roster of songs was written when thinking about the vast, sparsely populated wilderness of their namesake.
Official Site:

Beautifully crafted songs with intimate hushed vocals! Makes you feel like you're out in the forest on a misty day just wandering & exploring!

Acoustic songstress Opie Deino has a stunning voice & puts a really interesting & unique twist on the traditional 'singer-songwriter'. Her songs are energetic, upbeat, spiky & emotional (in a good way)!
