Sick Joy are one of the new breed of rock bands breathing fresh life into guitar music; staring down the mainstream from across the room, yet completely unafraid of an infectious killer tune. Creating music that is textured and intelligent while still delivering an instant shot of dopamine, this is the blood that runs in Sick Joy’s veins. Their melodies set up home in your head, interweaving perfectly with lyrics that deal with universal issues of the human condition, all while making you want to mosh your heart out of its chest. The band are due to release their debut album for So Recordings in 2022, produced by Space (Idles/Jamie Lenman). Sick Joy love touring, with gig buddies including Cleopatrick, Dinosaur Pile Up, Demob Happy, CltDrp, and Feeder. They already have fans at BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music, Kerrang!, Radio X and Amazing Radio.
“As a band we’ve always relied on music as a safe place. It’s always the most concentrated form of escape that we’ve needed at times throughout our lives and that definitely applies to most people I know too” says Mykl “Connecting with other people that use music like we do is the best thing we could do with our time, and even more so with everything that’s going on right now.”
For anyone looking for a comparison: imagine they listened to Slipknot as a child, with their older brother cranking out Pixies in the other room, got older, went for a night out and discovered Billie Eilish, Nine Inch Nails and PJ Harvey jamming in a dingy club. More hooks than velcro.
