The Latvian indie four-piece Carnival Youth received The European Border Breakers award at Eurosonic 2016. The sound of Carnival Youth blends exciting melodies, the energy of rock music and fresh tunes – lyrical songs and indie hits embody the bands enthusiasm and love for music. Their talent can be felt both on record and at the dynamic live performances. Their new record resembles Wolf Parade, Temples and Arctic Monkeys. Since the formation of the band in 2012, Roberts Vanags, Aleksis Lurins, Edgars Kaupers and Emils Kaupers have released two records – “Never Have Enough” EP and debut LP “No Clouds Allowed”, which was rewarded as the best debut album of 2014 in their home country Latvia. Both records have granted them a growing fan base all over Europe and critical acclaim. Their second album “Propeller” was released in April 1, 2016. It will be presented with an intense tour all around Europe. Carnival Youth have played at “NME Club Night” at KOKO in London, many festivals and showcases, such as The Great Escape (UK), Sziget (Hungary), Positivus (Latvia), Open’er Festival (Poland), Reeperbahn (Germany), Eurosonic (The Netherlands) and others. They have toured Germany, Austria, Switzerland and their local region several times. Radio personalities like Steve Lamacq (BBC 6 Music), John Kennedy (XFM) and Chris Hawkins (BBC 6 Music) have played tracks from “No Clouds Allowed” on their radio shows. Several songs of Carnival Youth have charted in German and Latvian radio stations. Support comes from Polish native & now proud West Yorkshire resident pop star KARI, who brings her heady mix of angelic vocals, sonic complexity and a desire for experimentation, tapping into the sublime. She achieves something cosmic with her musical self-fashioning, forging a globetrotting sound that appeals to a universal audience. IDM, tribal, folk and the hymnal all combine for a dazzling listening experience, summed up by Alan Raw as music that 'transcends boundaries and crosses borders'. It is a sound that has already garnered worldwide interest, with support from BBC Introducing, 'The One' being featured on Radio 1's playlist, and bookings by Isle of Wight, Waves Vienna, Opener Festival and more. Opening up we have Lilac's Daughter, hailing from Copenhagan and writing beautiful, intricate folk pop she completes a triple bill of fantastic European artists.
